I almost fit here. I'm a 20-something, but not living in Alaska. I am, however, visiting Alaska.
Every year, those around me plan a large family and friends vacation. This year's destination is Alaska. We'll be taking the 7-day Northbound Alaskan Cruise with Carnival Cruise Lines. We start is Vancouver, Canada, and end in Anchorage Alaska. Along the way, we'll be making stops at (in order) Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, cruising the College Fjord, and cruising Prince William Sound.
I guess in posting here (and a few other places) I'm looking to just find out a few things from some people who live in those areas. If anyone would like, I also think it might be neat to get a meet-up group together in one of those cities. I've never been to Alaska and I'm quite ignorant to what the cities really have to offer. I'm going to be doing some research on some things to visit, but I figured that I could find some useful or interesting tidbits from some of you guys.
Any comments are appreciated :)

Vote Tomorrow - Tues. April 3rd!
Tomorrow, Alaskans have a chance to vote for equal pay for equal work. The Alaskan Supreme Court ruled unanimously that all state and public employees should receive equal pay and benefits to care for their families. The SPECIAL ADVISORY VOTE would challenge this ruling, urging the legislature to amend Alaska's Constitution to exclude same sex partners and their families from receiving the benefits received by heterosexual couples.
Tomorrow, on Tuesday April 3rd, vote NO on the Special Advisory Vote and vote for equality and health care for all Alaskans. Tell your friends and family, carpool to your polling place, and get out and act up on this issue!
To find out where to vote, check out the following link and follow the instructions, or just call 1-888-383-8683.http://ltgov.state.ak.us/elections/polling.php

Fairbanks Sci-Fi convention
I am attempting to revive the long dead ArctiCon; make it bigger, better, stronger! So, a new campus club is being formed to achieve this. If you are interested in planning a sci-fi/fantasy convention or are simply interested in going to one, please show up to one of these organizational meetings.
What: ArctiCon revival
Where: UAF Wood Center Conference room B. (This room is downstairs from the main entrance, by the showers...e-mail me if you need directions)
When: September 19th & 21st, 5:30pm-6:30pm (You do not have to attend both, just show up to one)
If you have any questions, or you cannot attend but would like to be put on the member list, please e-mail me at email@example.com
This is a campus club, but you DO NOT have to be a student to participate. Everyone in the community is welcome to be part of this club.
Hope to see you all there!!!

Hi, I'm Nikki, I live in Anchorage. I am a 23 old who loves the outdoors. I am always looking for a new spot to hike, ski, fish, you name it, I probably enjoy doing it. So if you have any awesome holes and don't mind sharing I'd love to hear about them. Or if you're looking for some partners to enjoy the outdoors with we would love to join. We're always looking for new friends who don't need to spend all their time in the bars. I have nothing wrong with having some fun and drinking a bit (or a lot) we just prefer to do it while doing something outside or at home. Hope every one enjoys the last of fall for this year. Winter is finally almost here again!!! Yeah! Current Mood: bored

My fiancé and I are getting married next July in Seward. We are from CA, so we are doing all our wedding planning over the internet and phone. We are having a lot of trouble locating an officiant/minister to marry us. We are looking for a non-denominational ceremony. Does anyone have any recommendations for an officiant/minister? We are willing to pay for someone to travel from Anchorage to Seward. Please share any and all recommendations. Also, I am also looking for someone to do my hair and make-up. Again, we don't mind paying someone to travel to Seward. Thanks in advance for any and all help! Current Mood: hopeful

I'm Jenna. I've just joined this community. I live in the Fairbanks area. I'm 24. I'm looking to meet people who are vegan/vegetarian. My family (husband, 3 year old & I) just started a vegan lifestyle and we feel pretty alone in our current circles (which are SMALL since we haven't lived here long).
Also, if you *are* vegan in this area do you know of any good restaurants or places to shop? We've been to Fred Meyer's small little section with vegan products but are there any health food stores in the area with a better selection? Current Mood: curious

Hi, I was just feeling nostalgic the other day and wanted to look at old pictures of places that we may no longer have in Fairbanks anymore... namely, the Goldstream theater.. I was just curious if anyone had any pictures of it, outside, (I'd LOVE any pics of the inside, too), whatever! Same with like the old Dairy Queens that used to be here, and even pics of places before they were places! Just curious what anyone might have out there.... Thanks!
